Local “living” history exhibition
Old Stories for New Times: Inspiration for Sustainable Living is a unique exhibition opening on October 12th at The Library at Willesden Green.
This free exhibition is dedicated to day-to-day and community life in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s before cheap oil and consumerism took the world by storm. For this project, fifteen local residents living in Mapesbury, Brondesbury, Kilburn and surrounds were interviewed by the local volunteer organisation, Transition Town Kensal to Kilburn. They’ve shared stories about a time when cars were rare, TV sets even rarer but there were still several dairy farms across the area.
As part of the exhibition, visitors will be able to listen to extracts of interviews given by Peggy, Margaret, Pran, Edith and others. You will be able to see for yourself what life was like back in the days thanks to photos from personal collections and local archives. There will also be artifacts on display supplied by participants and by Brent Museum.
This exhibition has been made possible thanks to a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the invaluable cooperation of Brent Museum and Archives.
Alongside the exhibition, there are several events which will take place at the Library in Willesden Green starting from October 31st.
