Brent Multi-Faith Forum and Ashford Place would like to invite you to a:
“A Conversation with people of faith in Brent on how we can develop our faith venues as dementia and mental health friendly places”.
Health statistics for Brent show:
– one in six adults suffer from poor mental health.
– over 1,800 people over 65 years of age suffer from dementia.
– Mental health is said to be the single most common cause of ill-health effecting over 37,000 people.
With an increase in awareness of impact on people living with poor mental health and dementia and the impact on their carers, it is vitally important to consider the role of faith in their lives. The aim of this half-day event is to consider and discuss how faith based organisations and centres can be better equipped to support those living with poor mental health, dementia and their carers. The conversation would aim to share good practice and identifying what individual faith centres can do and what help they can receive.
We will have short presentations to start the conversation:
– Introduction to understanding Mental Health issues in Brent;
– Rodie Garland, Policy Advisor, FaithAction on vision of making Faith Centres ‘Friendly Places’;
– Ozkan Gedik, Brent IAPT (Improving access to Psychological Therapies) service in Brent.
We hope that you will be able to join us in this conversation in identifying ways in which faith centres can play an important and supportive role in the lives of people living with poor mental health and/or dementia and their carers. There will also be a light lunch at the end giving us further opportunity to continue the conversation and the discussions.
