Local building flats being targeted by well dressed EDF man knocking on interior doors of flat asking for a meter reading. When asked how did he get in the building he replied someone had let him in. Luckily the person was wary and opened the door with the chain on as it was 8 pm! The nicely dressed man wanted to come in but was told to wait with the door shut. EDF was called if they had any men working in the neighbourhood. The answer was a NO and they do not send men out after 6 pm! Safe to say the resident kept the door shut and the man left.
Please aware of your surroundings when you enter a building or get out of your car. Do not let people follow you in a building, if they try to come in, stop and question them. Have them buzz the person they want to see – you might have inadvertently let in the guy who will burgle your neighbours or even you! If they are hanging around by the door, go to a different door if possible or wait to see if they move on. Or just be careful when going in.
While you are in the local playground watching your kids play, did you know it is an offence to roll up or smoke drugs in front of children, who are playing in the same area? Please dial 101 or 999 (if necessary, as it is a crime in progress.) While not life threatening, this sort of anti-social behavioiur needs to be reported for the local police to know and keep track of.
Testing car door handles is considered an offence and you should dial 999. It’s like testing your windows to see if your home can be burgled. Please do not ignore this as it makes our neighbourhood an easy target. Give a description of the person, clothes worn like grey hoody with a logo, blue Nikes, red stripes down arm etc. Let’s make our neighbourhood safe!
