Article in last week’s Guardian advised BT to scrap half of UK’s remaining phone boxes for all the reasons the Cricklewood Town Team have been saying for at least 7 years:
- they don’t get cleaned unless requested
- brothels use for advertising
- they smell
- have flyposting and graffiti,
- no one sees anyone in them (they have never released usage figures even to Police)
- why are there so many, especially in Cricklewood Lane where back to back in a pair.
- eyesore on street scene of Town Centre
After contacting BT, this is their response yet again.
“No phone box in Cricklewood Broadway is on this list. They get used far too regularly and usage is the main criterion we apply when considering the future of a box.
We’re more than a few months away from planning the next stage of our ongoing removal schedule. If, in the future, usage from the boxes in Cricklewood Broadway declines significantly then we’ll remove them.
All boxes in the country are considered for removal.”
Our local businesses and residents want attractive well cared-for streets and public environment that we can be proud of. It is about time BT and Clear Channel removed these unsightly phone boxes which are used for anti-social behaviour.
