Information from our local police
Dispersal Zones are created using the legislation under s34 Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014. They are authorised by an Inspector to run for a period of up to 48 hours in a defined area. The area will usually be chosen due to ongoing ASB and crime there. The dispersal zone allows constables and PCSOs in uniform to direct people causing or likely to cause crime and ASB to leave the area, and if they return within a specified time they can then be arrested.
The dispersal zones are created as and when we need them, according to our shifts and when we are going to be able to target the affected areas. As long as residents keep reporting to us whether or not the offenders are still returning, that is all we need to know. If the area continues to have problems, we will continue to create a dispersal zone and police it as best we can. If we have repeat offenders then we will look to take longer-term action against them, but we need to catch them in order to do this.
We will always ask for vehicle indexes to be passed to us, as these can provide us with a very good picture of who is visiting the area, and we can proceed to investigate and target them.
