Olive Road Street Party

The Olive Road Street Party poster will soon be coming through your letterbox, so look out for it and display it in your window if you can. A preview of the poster is below. To get the poster in windows, we need your help. Please can you let me know if you are able to post the posters on your road? We would like to cover a large section of the neighbourhood.

Are you a musician, storyteller, writer, poet or comedian? Or do you know somebody who is?

We are calling on all creatives in the local area to be involved at the Olive Road Street Party taking place on Sunday 5 June. We are having a musicians stage and a storytellers stage and are now putting interested artists on our rosters for the afternoon. All musical styles welcome from pop to rock, folk, sitar and tabla etc! And all storytellers welcome from published authors to people who just love to talk! So please get in touch if you want to be seen and heard on the day.

Are you a parent?

We are also staging a children’s creative zone, right at the heart of the party. Your job is simple, dress your child as a character from their favourite book, film or TV series. Children will take part in a fancy dress competition on the day. So get sewing or purchasing their outfits!

Volunteers needed on the day

We are seeking volunteers to help on the day – from spending an hour in the kids zone to providing muscle to lift tables and gazebos, we need you. So let us know if you would like to get involved!

Our sponsors

We would like to thank our fantastic NW2 Residents Association and our very generous sponsors who are making the party possible:
Living Spring Montessori Nursery
Parkinson Farr estate agency
Fit4less gym Cricklewood
Print Sign Design
Pink Pamper Parlour
Munro Store

Finally, just to remind you that while the party will take place on a section of Olive Road, it is for all local residents in the neighbourhood of surrounding roads. All residents in the local area, plus their friends and family are encouraged to participate. So get thinking about what you will cook and bring and be sure to have the date in your diary!Marco and Galya

Neighbourhood Front Yard Sale this Sunday 8 May at 10.30am
Just to remind you that to raise money for the street party, we are having our neighbourhood front yard sale this Sunday 8 May at 10.30am.  So if you would like to join in, get sorting the things that you want to sell and on Sunday set up stall in your front yard!
If you missed our last mail, current plans for our street party are…
Olive Road Street Party on Sunday 5 June 2016 – an update
Our party is taking shape!  The party will…
  • Take place at 12.00-7.00pm on a section of Olive Road, it is for all local residents in the neighbourhood.  All residents in the local area, plus their friends and family will be encouraged to participate
  • Seek to raise awareness and money for Cricklewood Library. All surplus money from the event will go the library.
  • Have a literary theme.  Ideas at this stage for the theme are:
    • Participants to come in fancy dress as a character from a book they like
    • Participants to donate their favourite book to Cricklewood library, bringing a copy of the book to give to the library stall on the day
    • Have a story tent and hold a poetry slam
  • Encourage all participating to bring food and drink to set out on a table
  • Have a children’s area with creative play, dressing up, face painting, make a belt, etc.  We’ll try to get the local nurseries and schools involved.
  • Involve local musicians throughout the afternoon.  Some rostered and some spaces for impromptu performance.  Local musicians to include a mix of genres including pop, rock, folk, sitar and tabla, old fashioned sing-along to ukulele, children’s karaoke.  We’ll keep the music stage low level and set the PA for acoustic sets
  • Host a Zumba dance
  • Have a Mad Hatters tea party (possible performance / coaching from professional actors)
  • Have street games such as tug of war, egg and spoon race etc.
Donations
We do not have any financial support from the local council for our street party.  NW2 Resident’s Association are supporting with as much as they can, but to make the party happen, we need to raise money from sponsors and donations from the local residents.  Puja at Munro Store on Temple Road has set up a collection.  Please do pop by Munro Store and make a donation if you would like to and feel able.  Any surplus we make from your support will go directly to Cricklewood Library.
Our sponsors
Just a final note to thank those sponsors who have already got involved.
  • NW2 Resident’s Association
  • Living Spring Montessori Nursery
  • Parkinson Farr estate agent

If you would like to be involved in the next organising committee meeting it is taking place on…
